Southern localities to have 20 cargo port clusters

The southern region will have more than 20 clusters of cargo ports being invested in 2021-2030, according to the Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration under the Ministry of Transport.

Under the inland waterway infrastructure planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Southeast region will have 8 port clusters, with 4 in Ho Chi Minh City, the rest are port clusters in Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces.

Connecting the port clusters in the Southeast region will be two key waterways, namely the Saigon and Dong Nai rivers in the territory of Ho Chi Minh City, while Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh will have a series of newly-built waterways.

Specifically, on the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to 6 existing ports (Transimex, Phuc Long, Truong Tho, ICD TANAMEXCO, Southern Logistics, and Thu Duc Thermal Power), Cu Chi Port (Cu Chi district) will be added with a capacity of 1,200 tons and 2 other ports whose location are yet to be identified, belonging to the central and northern port cluster of Ho Chi Minh City.

In Binh Duong, in addition to the existing An Son Port in Thuan An town, the province will have new ports such as: An Tay, Rach Bap in Ben Cat town, Ben Suc, Dau Tieng (including Phu Cuong Thinh Port) and Thanh An in Dau Tieng district and another port  with location not yet determined.

Tay Ninh province will build new ports of Hung Thuan- Trang Bang, Phuoc Dong in Trang Bang town, Duong Minh Chau Port in Duong Minh Chau district and other ports with location not yet determined. The port will be capable of receiving ships of 2,000-3,000 tons, with a capacity of 500-1,500 tons.

For the Dong Nai River route, Ho Chi Minh City now has 2 ports and will add 1 port, with location not yet identified, in the East port cluster of Ho Chi Minh City.

In Dong Nai, in addition to 4 existing ports, planned new ports include: Trameco, Bien Hoa (including Tin Nghia port), Dong Nai waterway in Bien Hoa city; Vinh Tan in Nhon Trach district and other ports with location not yet identified. The ports will have a capacity of 700-1,500 tons, receiving ships of 2,000-5,000 tons./.
