Tuna exports to China soar

As the only market with increasing tuna export turnover, the Chinese market is the focused of 23 Vietnamese tuna exporters.

Ms. Nguyen Ha, an expert in the tuna market from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said 23 Vietnamese enterprises are now exporting tuna to the Chinese market. Since the beginning of the year, the enterprises have taken advantage of and increased tuna exports to the market.

According to statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the total value of tuna exports to China in the first nine months of 2021 reached more than 4 million USD, up 66% against the same period last year.

Exports of all groups of tuna products to China increased against the same period last year, except for fresh, frozen and dried tuna coded HS03. In terms of value, the group of frozen tuna loins, fillets, and tuna meat products accounted for the highest proportion with 68%, followed by canned tuna products, accounting for 26%.

Compared to the same period of 2020, exports of tuna loins, fillets and frozen tuna meat witnessed the biggest increase, of 145%./.
