The goal was revealed in a conference held by the VASEP on June 22, in Ho Chi Minh City.
Despite many difficulties, with the efforts of the whole industry, in the first 5 months of 2022, seafood exports reached more than 4.7 billion USD, up 44% over the same period last year.
According to VASEP, in the 5 months, Vietnam exported seafood to 160 markets, seafood export turnover to all major markets had breakthrough double-digit growth.
Particularly, seafood exports to Russia decreased by 37% year on year, because the military conflict made trade with this market almost stall in March and April. Three markets dominated the growth rate of seafood exports over the past 5 months, including: the United States accounting for 23%, the European Union (EU) accounting for 12%, and China accounting for 16%.
Also according to VASEP, together with favorable conditions such as seafood consumption demand in the main markets increasing sharply after the COVID-19 epidemic, enterprises should take advantage of preferential tariffs from Free Trade Agreements to boost exports to many markets such as the EU, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, China and the UK./.
