On May 19, the Vietnam national defence television channel made its debut at the National Convention Centre on the occasion of the 123rd anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s birth.

The ceremony was attended by former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; General Phung Quang Thanh, Politburo member, Deputy-Secretary of the Military Commission of the Party Central Committee and Minister of National Defence; Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee Commission of Popularization and Education; Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, the Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the member of the standing military commission of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics; and numerous former leaders of the Ministry of National Defence, Director of the General Department of Politics and the Central branches and ministries.
Mr Nguyen Bac Son, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Information and Communication granted the certificate of launching the channel to the leadership of the army radio-television centre.
Mr Phung Quang Thanh, Mr Dinh The Huynh, Mr Ngo Xuan Lich, Mr Nguyen Bac Son and Deputy Minister of National Defence Nguyen Thanh Cung pressed the button to launch the channel.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister Phung Quang Thanh stressed: The Vietnam national defence television channel is an official organ of the Military Commission of the Party Central Committee, the Ministry of National Defence and the voice of the Vietnamese armed forces and people.
The channel aims to spread information on military and national defence tasks, the building of the people’s army in combination with the people-based national defence, actively contributing to the cause of national construction and protection.
He suggested that in order to attract more viewers, the centre will continue to improve its troops and employees’ professionalism to meet their increasing demands in tasks.
In addition, the army radio-television centre will work together with the military-run telecom group Viettel to improve its technique facilities, and with other TV teams in the whole-army units to gradually meet the requirements to draw more and more viewers, from inside and outside the army, in the upcoming time.
The channel will highlight some main categories, including news-political commentary; national defence education; science-education; and culture-movie-sports.
The channel is expected to broadcast 18.5 hours a day, from 5.30 am to 24.00 pm, via VCTV, SCTV, HTVC, and Viettel’s IPTV and Mobile TV services./.
