Co To island district: Poverty rate remains only 0.39%

Over the past five years, Co To district has combined poverty reduction programs with socio-economic development programs and the program on building new style rural areas; and mobilised resources to invest in essential infrastructure to serve people’s lives. The capital used over the past 5 years for poverty reduction has reached over VND11.8 billion.

In realization of poverty reduction, the island granted 6,258 medical insurance cards to people, including 723 for the poor and 179 for nearly-poor people.

Each year, the district poured investment to upgrade schools, give schooling fee exemption and reduction for poor pupils and students, and provide assistance worth VND120,000 per month for lunch for each kindergarten student.

Thanks to the program on providing breeding assistance, many poor families have escaped poverty sustainably. Eleven vocational training courses have been organised for rural laborers in terms of tourism services, driving and the processing of sea food./.
