According to incomplete statistics, in Hanoi, about 50,000 people are exposed and nearly 19,000 people are directly affected by Agent Orange.

According to Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Hanoi, Tran Van Quang, activities giving health care, encouragement, visits and gifts to families and victims of Agent Orange have been also carried out regularly by the Hanoi authorised agencies.

Accordingly, they have focused on building and repairing houses; granting scholarships to children and grandchildren of victims with difficult circumstances; giving wheelchairs to the disabled; and organizing medical examination and providing free medicine for victims and their relatives.

In addition to preferential policies and support as prescribed, on average, each year, about 20,000-25,000 Agent Orange victims in Hanoi receive the attention of authorities at all levels and the community.

People affected by toxic chemicals with special circumstances are taken for long-term care at the Hanoi Center for caring, nurturing and treating victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Ba Vi district. At present, the center is taking care of and nurturing more than 100 people.

In the coming time, Hanoi city will continue to promote the program to support Agent Orange victims and their families; consider them a priority in the process of implementing and developing policies to support sustainable poverty reduction and ensure the city's social security./.
