Vietnam always attaches importance to promoting and protecting the rights and interests of people with disabilities on the basis of equality, without discrimination, and integration of the issue into the development framework of the country.

So confirmed Minister Counsellor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, during the 15th conference of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), held on June 14-16 with the theme “Building disability-inclusive and participatory societies in the COVID context and beyond”.

According to Ms. Thoa, Vietnam always strives to create a favourable environment for people with disabilities, helping them not only enjoy benefits, but also have the opportunity to participate in the decision-making process and contribute to social development.

The Vietnamese representative emphasized that Vietnam's ratification of the CRPD ILO Convention 159 on employment and vocational training for people with disabilities is an affirmation of Vietnam's commitment to ensuring that labourers are not discriminated in the workplace.

The Prime Minister has just promulgated the National Program on People with Disabilities for the period of 2021-2030. As a result, millions of people with disabilities, including disabled children, are cared for at social protection departments; 100% of people with special disabilities are covered by health insurance There are 20 educational centers to support integration, 107 special education centers for children with disabilities, 256 training facilities for people with disabilities and 400 enterprises owned by people with disabilities.

She affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to work with the international community to ensure a just, inclusive and sustainable future for all, leaving no one behind.

Within the framework of the Conference, there were thematic discussions on innovation and technology promoting the rights of people with disabilities; economic empowerment and entrepreneurship for people with disabilities; participation of people with disabilities in climate action, disaster risk reduction and disaster resilience./.
