The Indonesian government expects GDP growth in the final quarter of 2021 to exceed 5 percent thanks to eased mobility restrictions and a recovering global economy, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

Speaking at a press conference on December 21, Mulyani said the domestic economic recovery had strengthened following the interruption by the Delta COVID-19 variant in July and August.

The national response has helped to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases, thereby allowing the resumption of economic activities, Mulyani said.

Indonesia’s GDP growth is predicted to expand 3.5-4 percent in the whole year.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, in November, state budget revenue increased by 19.4 percent over the same period last year to 1.699 trillion rupiah (117.9 billion USD), mainly from rising revenue of manufacturing and trading companies.

Meanwhile, the number of international arrivals in Indonesia has increased in the last two months.

According to Spokesperson of COVID-19 Handling Task Force Wiku Adisasmito, as of October 2021, the number of international visitors to the country reached 1,000 to 2,000 per day.

In December 2021, the number reached around 4,000 arrivals, he said.

In view of the increase in international arrivals, Adisasmito urged the community to continue tightening the implementation of the health protocols and avoid traveling abroad to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant and a surge in cases.

Indonesia has so far recorded 4,260,893 COVID-19 infections, including 144,024 deaths./.
