By 2020, there will be some 476,000 families in Ho Chi Minh city who do not have houses; 156,000 low-income families; and some 400,000 workers in 3 concentrated industrial zones who have demand of 280,000 accommodations, the city People’s Committee has reported.

The housing demand has encouraged the city to plan building some 20,000 social houses and 35,000 accommodations for workers and labourers in industrial zone.

According to the city People’s Committee, it has not satisfied the great demand of housing due to different reasons, including limited land sources for social housing; unstable capital for investors or housing buyers; and slow project implementation.

To deal with the obstacles, the city is looking to develop different kinds of social housing in terms of types of buyers, areas and locations; and continue to allocate land and capital for social housing.

Additionally, there will be priority policies encouraging businesses to develop social housing, inexpensive commercial housing and inexpensive rental housing.

The city will also put aside land near concentrated industrial zones for workers’ social housing projects; support preferential loans of up to 10 years or more; and expand rental houses./.
