Six delegations set up to check food safety

The Central Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on food safety will establish six delegations to check food safety across 12 localities, the Food Safety Department under the Ministry of Health has reported.

Accordingly, the delegations will work in Thua Thien - Hue, Da Nang, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Son La, Hoa Binh, Ho Chi Minh city, Binh Duong, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Lang Son and Cao Bang.

With participation by heads of relevant units, the inspection, lasting until April 2nd, will focus on the quality of food popularly used during the lunar New Year Festival in large food production, trade and import foundations, wholesale markets, supermarkets and trade centres.

Ass. Prof. Dr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Head of the Food Safety Department, said that special attention will be paid to the origin of food, additives, food colours and preservation chemicals.

Under the inspection, samples of food will undergo quick tests, producing promptly publicized results./.
