Two million presents to be mobilized for AO victims and poor people

The Vietnam Red Cross has launched the movement “Tet for the poor and AO victims”, aiming to mobilize at least two million Tet presents for poor families, beneficiaries and AO victims.

The information was announced during an art performance titled “Humanitarian strength” held on January 7th in Hanoi.

Launched for the first time in 1999, the movement has become a beautiful activity in society during Tet with practical efficiency. Over the past five years, nearly 10 million Tet presents worth over VND3.464 trillion have been mobilised, benefiting poor families, beneficiaries and vulnerable people.

Besides the movement, this year, the Vietnam Red Cross has worked with the national humanitarian portal to launch a message program to support the poor. Accordingly, by texting TET from December 27th, 2017 to February 24th, 2018 each message donates VND20,000 to help the poor.

Addressing the art performance, State President Tran Dai Quang praised the achievements made by the Vietnam Red Cross, stressing that applying humanitarian policies was among important effort of the Party and State.

Confirming the organization’s role in providing better material and spiritual lives for the poor, people in natural disaster-affected areas, victims of war and of AO, disabled people, lonely elderly people, orphans and vulnerable people, Mr Quang urged the organization to renew its operation to help greater numbers of people in need, especially those in remote, border, island and ethnic minority-inhabited regions.

He also asked for greater efficiency in education about humanitarian work to encourage donation for disadvantaged people, contributing to realizing Party and State social welfare and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement./.
