– General Vo Nguyen Giap, the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army, the great symbol and pride of the nation, has passed away.
The General’s image will be forever in the heart of Vietnamese people. There are films about the general by domestic and foreign directors.
A 3D animation film Quyet Dinh Lich Su (The Historical Decision) about General Vo Ngyen Giap by director Ha Bac was completed in the end of 2010. The film described the difficult decision of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Dien Bien Phu victory. The 20-minute movie features soldiers pulling canons over the slopes for the historical Dien Bien campaign, the battle that made a name for General Giap, turning him into one of the greatest military geniuses of the 20th century.
Director Nguyen Ha Bac said his crew had to replicate the vast Muong Thanh rice field with hundreds of airplanes and tanks. The rice field was the battlefield where Viet Minh soldiers encircled French troops for eight weeks, from March 13 to May 7, 1954.
The documentary film Dai tuong Vo Nguyen Giap – Mot the ky, mot doi nguoi (General Vo Nguyen Giap – a decade, a life) was produced in 2001 by the Vietnam National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio. The film features the general’s life and career. It won two prizes, including special prize of the Board of Examiners and the most outstanding film script for People’s Artist Dao Trong Khanh at the 13th Vietnam film festival.
The documentary film Dai tuong Vo Nguyen Giap (General Vo Nguyen Giap) by director Cao Nguyen Dung, which includes six volumes, features the life and political career of the general from his youth to the great victory of the legendary Dien Bien Phu campaign.
The copyright of documentary Tran chien giua ho va voi (Dien Bien Phu – the battle between a tiger and an elephant) by French director Daniel Roussel was bought by Vietnam Television and broadcast to mark the 55th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory./.
