Maps and documents affirming Vietnam’ sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos are on display at an exhibition which opened in the southern province of Binh Duong on June 7th.

The exhibition is co-organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications and Binh Duong provincial People’s Committee.

It aims to give officials, Party members and people of all walks a better understanding on the history of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, as well as Vietnam’s ownership of the two archipelagos.

On display are numerous documents and around 100 maps in Chinese, Nom (old Vietnamese script using Chinese characters), French and modern Vietnamese, issued from the 17th to the outset of the 20th century by the Vietnamese feudal states and the French government in Indochina (on behalf of the then Vietnamese state).

Worthy of note is a collection of four atlases and 30 maps compiled and published by China through historical periods, which prove China has never managed the islands. The four atlases also defined Hainan island as China’s southernmost point.

The exhibition will run until June 11th./.
