Speaking at the seminar, Chairman of Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu said that Hoi An ancient city is home to more than 1,000 ancient architectural relics such as houses, communal houses, temples, ancient wells and tombs. These relics have traditional artistic characteristics of Vietnamese people and express the cultural exchange and integration among Eastern and Western countries.

With its special cultural values, Hoi An ancient city was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO on December 4th, 1999.

To preserve and promote urban heritage values, the city needs cooperation with heritage towns in Vietnam and in the world; ideas of Vietnamese and international experts in the preservation of ancient city; and financial and scientific support from international organizations.

Quang Nam province hoped to receive ideas from domestic and foreign experts and managers to help Hoi An city and the province to share more experience in the preservation and promotion of the outstanding cultural heritage values.

Participants also discussed architectural planning and sustainable development in heritage towns; heritage management and the role of the local community./.
