(CPV) - Earlier, we have seen a lot of tours for amateurs. This year, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training announced a pilot program on hosting the professional golf tournament system, hoping to improve athlete’s levels.
The development of golf in Vietnam started in Hanoi’s Dong Mo golf course, around 20 years ago. It was mainly for foreigners, diplomats and business people. Currently, dozens of Vietnamese golfers are swinging on nearly 60 courses and hundreds of driving ranges in big cities where golfers can practice their skills.
Under the English name, Vietnam Professional Golf Association Tour, the system is a good forum for Vietnamese professional golfers to practise, compete and improve their skills, in preparation for international events.
For the 2017-2018 season, from August 2017 to July 2018, there will be four tours offering around VND1.1 billon (USD50,000) for each event. The first one, FLC Vietnam Masters, is set to tear off from September 25th to October 10th at FLC Luxury Sam Son Resort. It lures the best 80 Vietnamese golfers, best 20 junior golfers, and 20 invited golfers.
The fee is VND5-6 million each./.
