The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai has reinstated new rice celebration of Jrai ethnic minority group in Chu Mo commune, Ia Pa district to preserve and promote the unique culture.

New rice celebration is a long tradition of ethnic groups in Gia Lai province. It means to honor grains for the villagers and to worship the gods of earth, rivers and streams, mountain, rain and thunder with the hope of bumper crops and a prosperous life of the community.

The celebration scale depends on harvest ability and conditions of each family. It can prolong one to many days. On this occasion, families invite their relatives and friends from neighboring villages to enjoy eating and drinking. Crowded home is considered an honor.
A part from worshipping and praying for health of the family, people enjoy playing gongs and singing throughout the days and nights./.
