Hanoi has gone through many historical years full of ups and downs. Architectural works from many periods have become the city's heritage. In Hanoi, among the most prominent and oft-mentioned of the city's characteristics are the French-Indochinese architectural works, which also have a fascinating history.
Every day, we still pass by famous architectural heritages of Hanoi such as Hanoi Opera House or Hanoi National University, or just stop to check-in without knowing that these works hold many interesting mysteries.
Cultural and artistic heritage imprints
On Le Thanh Tong street, the lecture hall of the University of Natural Sciences under Hanoi National University, formerly the Indochina University, later the University of General Sciences, has a giant painting in the style of European murals, but the content of the work is completely Vietnamese.

The giant painting is 11x7m in size, located in the center of the lecture hall. The center of the painting is the traditional three-door gate familiar to the Northern Delta region, located under the canopy of an ancient tree.
The artist of this giant painting is Victor Tardie, the first Principal of the Indochina University of Fine Arts, the cradle that trained a series of artistic talents for the country, helping Vietnamese fine arts become famous in the world.
A characteristic of Hanoi is the French streets, the works built by the French. The typical French streets in Hoan Kiem district are designed in a checkerboard pattern, always creating a rhythmic harmony between buildings - flower gardens - water surfaces. The road axis from Ly Thai To - Le Thanh Tong has architectural highlights such as State Bank - Bac Bo Palace - Opera House - University is a typical example, interspersed with architectural works are flower gardens.
Creativity on the basis of architectural heritage
This November, a series of French architectural works will open to the community during the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 called "Creative Crossroads".
"Creative Crossroads" is formed by the connection between the North - South axis (Ly Thai To - Le Thanh Tong street) and the East - West axis (Bac Co slope - Trang Tien street). This space has a series of architectural heritages from the French colonial period and is being exploited in modern times such as: Hanoi Children's Palace, Government Guest House, Opera House, National History Museum, University of General Sciences and flower gardens.
Hanoi Children's Palace will be the starting point. This is also the place where many cultural and creative events will take place.

The attraction for young people to the National History Museum is a fashion show by research units, restoration of ancient costumes and music practice.
In addition to music and fashion shows, the Opera House will have a Parade to introduce to the public the creative community of Hanoi city. The parade honors and promotes seven creative fields.
In particular, double-decker tourist buses will be used as mobile stages, performing impressive performances and vibrant sounds.
The final destination is Hanoi National University (formerly General University), where the frequency of cultural and creative activities is second only to Hanoi Children's Palace.
Artists use many modern installation technologies to "tell" the beauty of the past, helping give the public a multidimensional, multisensory perception of Indochina art and architecture. Indochina's sense is the sense that laid the foundation for modern architecture, fine arts and design in Vietnam./.
