Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem district created a benchmark as the first locality in the city to build a walking space, creating opportunities for residents and visitors to have more nightlife spots. Since then, the walking space Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity have become a trademark of Hanoi.
Performing state management, from 2017 to now, Hoan Kiem District People's Committee has issued 44 documents to direct and implement tourism development in the area. In which, the district orients to develop tourism in both scale and service quality, becoming a spearhead economic sector with high growth value; focuses on investment, strengthening management, effectively exploiting and promoting the strengths of architectural space and cultural values in the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake area and its surroundings.
From 2016 to 2022, the district invested, restored and embellished relics with a total investment of more than 274 billion VND; arrange cables in the Hanoi Old Quarters (79/79 streets) and underground floating lines and cables in the old quarter area (58/78 streets).
Besides the achieved results, the implementation of tourism development policy in Hoan Kiem district also encountered some limitations and problems. A number of projects such as "Development of the area along the Red River, Hoan Kiem district into a cultural and tourist space", the plan to renovate and rebuild old apartments in the district, have met difficulties.
Most of the enterprises operating in the field of service, commerce and tourism in the district are small and medium enterprises.
Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Hanoi City People's Council Nguyen Thanh Binh noted that over the past time Hoan Kiem district has paid special attention to tourism development and concretized it into programs and projects. However, many projects have not been fully exploited and many projects have not been implemented. Therefore, Hoan Kiem district should pay attention to overcome difficulties and limitations, take stronger measures in tourism recovery; review the investment planning for the tourism infrastructure system (public transport, stationary traffic-parking lots, public toilets) to fully exploit the tourism potential of the district.
In which, it is necessary to have new tourism products in the direction of unique, special and attractive; innovate products according to the city's tourism planning, create high-quality cultural, experience and entertainment tourism products; and continue to innovate in pedestrian zones to add more economic value./.
