Foreigners’ good impressions on Vietnam

Nguyen Van Lam, deputy director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in Ho Chi Minh City, says that in order to meet the requirements of entry permits being granted, businesses must send foreign documents to the Department.

A working group made up of the City People's Committee, including nine relevant units, will be reviewing eligible cases weekly and subsequently passing them onto the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Public Security to continue with the entry visa procedures.

Since June 8, the municipal Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has conducted five sessions to grant entry permits to foreigners coming into Ho Chi Minh City, with the majority of them being employees from China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the United States, the UK, France, and Germany. Moreover, there were 82 individuals granted permission who are either the partners or children of foreigners licensed to enter the country.

According to Nguyen Hong Tam, director of the Center for International Health Quarantine, foreign nationals upon arrival at the airport must complete a health declaration, undergo a body-temperature measurement, and have samples taken. After a mandatory 14-day quarantine period, foreigners will be eligible to work at local enterprises providing their test results come back negative for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

This shift comes after the nation stopped issuing visas to citizens from abroad as of March 18 in an effort to halt the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.

At present, the country has confirmed a total of 355 positive COVID-19 cases, of which 340 have gone on to make a full recovery from the deadly virus, making up 95.8% of all cases. Furthermore, the country has gone through 78 consecutive days without a single case of local transmission. Now there are 15 people receiving treatment at health facilities, with most of them in a stable health condition, while three of the cases have tested negative for the virus at least twice.

Vietnamese football player wins AFC award for incredible acrobatic goal

Nguyen Van Quyet’s stunning strike for Hanoi FC against Ceres Negros FC of the Philippines back in 2017 has been named the best acrobatic goal scored in an Asian continental tournament, as announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Voice of Vietnam has reported.

The announcement on Van Quyet’s (C) goal comes after a competition was held with the public voting on the five best acrobatic goals scored during the AFC Cup.

After voting was open to the public for a one-week period, Van Quyet’s stunning goal eventually finished first with a 51% share of the voting, equivalent to 66,654 votes.

The Vietnamese forward was closely followed by Safee Sali of Malaysia who picked up 46% of the vote, while the goal by Omar Al Soma of Syria was trailing far behind in third with only 2% of votes.

Despite the build-up to the goal being slightly scrappy, there was nothing messy about Van Quyet's superb first touch and finish with the Hanoi FC captain successfully netting to level the score at 1-1 during his team’s tie against Ceres Negros in the opening match of the group stage at the AFC Cup 2017, the AFC’s website describes.

The award comes after Van Quyet was named as the only Vietnamese representative to be listed among the top midfielders in Asian football, as voted on by sports broadcaster Fox Sports Asia.
