The Voice of Vietnam reported that addressing a conference in Hanoi on December 27, Nguyen Thanh Binh, chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit), emphasised that fruit and vegetables exports reached a record high of US$7.2 billion this year with various products penetrating into more than 60 countries worldwide.

Currently, Vietnam has seen many key export products such as mangoes, bananas, and durian make inroads into China, the world's largest fruit and vegetable market.

Most notably, the number of the products that are exported via official channels has been increasing. China has granted export licenses for 15 Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products, of which durians, bananas, and coconuts are all witnessing positive growth.

Along with the Chinese market, Vietnamese fruit and vegetables have penetrated many other markets such as the United States, with export growth exceeding 30%, and Thailand with over 80%.

Binh noted  that there remains ample room ahead for the Vietnamese fruit and vegetables industry to expand the market and increase exports as the country has signed 16 new-generation free trade agreements.

However, Binh underlined the need to compile complete standards for quality control as a means of boosting exports, maintaining consumer reputation, and building a brand for the fruit and vegetables industry in the near future.

He outlined that although the industry has issued some general standards, such as humidity, scratches, and roughness, they have not been fully developed for products with a high economic value such as durians, dragon fruit, and bananas.

He therefore underscored the importance of developing and promulgating standards on fruit and vegetable quality, which in turn will serve as the premise for relevant ministries to confidently continue negotiating to further expand markets moving forward.

Tan Cang Hai Phong receives 1.5 millionth TEU in 2024

The Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) in the northern city of Hai Phong welcomed its 1.5 millionth TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) this year on December 27, from container ship CMA CGM MISSISSIPI, reported Vietnam News Agency.

TC-HICT received its first container in May 2018. In 2020, for the first time, it handled 500,000 TEUs in a year. For three consecutive years - 2022, 2023, and 2024 - the port has maintained its performance with milestones of 1,000,000 TEUs.

This year marks TC-HICT’s milestone as it has handled 1.5 million TEUs, which helps secure its position as the leading port in northern Vietnam, ranking fourth nationwide and accounting for 23% of the market share of ports in Hai Phong.

This achievement demonstrates the outstanding development potential of the Lach Huyen area in particular and Hai Phong's seaports in general, indicating a significant demand for investment and the establishment of major shipping routes in this area.

The success of TC-HICT lays the groundwork for Hai Phong to continue developing additional ports in the Lach Huyen area while maximising natural advantages and geographical positions to boost economic development, contributing to the increase in cargo throughput at Hai Phong's seaports.

The Tet Ty (the Year of the Snake) exhibition features 80 diverse works of art by the G39 group, presenting their skills on various materials including pastel, paper, wood carvings, acrylics, oil, lacquer and with the creation of ceramic and metal sculptures.

One of the 12 symbolic animals of the lunar year, the snake holds a special significance that the others do not. The image of the snake is closely associated with Buddhism and the worship of snakes is an ancient belief of the Vietnamese people, embodying two main meanings - as a totem and as a water deity. People in Việt Nam have deified this creature, worshiping it in hopes that it will protect them. This can be found in fairy tales, legends, customs, literature, art and sculpture.

Not exclusively taking inspiration from snakes, the 10th annual exhibition of G39 also presents a vibrant gallery with diverse works on various themes.

From the peaceful countryside scenes of artist Nguyen Thanh Quang to the vibrant still lifes and fresh flowers by artist Binh Nhi, visitors are transported to the landscapes of apricot and plum blossoms in the highlands by artist Vuong Linh. They also have a chance to joyfully celebrate the festival with artists Viet Anh and Hoang Phuong Lien and experience the excitement of traditional folk games in the festive atmosphere of Cu Da ancient village through the paintings of artist Nguyen Quoc Thang.

The exhibition will run at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts until January 3.
