Vietnam receives first repatriation flight from Ukraine in Hanoi

Departing from the Romanian capital city of Bucharest, it is the first repatriation flight arranged and fully funded by the Government of Vietnam to bring home Vietnamese living in war-ravaged areas in Ukraine. The passengers included 71 children aged under 12.

They were welcomed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu and representatives from the Vietnam Fatherland Front and concerned ministries at the airport.

As of 5:00pm on March 6, more than 2,600 Vietnamese nationals had been evacuated from Ukraine by Vietnamese missions in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. Of the people, over 1,700 were moved to Poland, some 290 to Hungary, nearly 600 to Romania, and more than 40 to Slovakia.

The Vietnamese missions have assisted the people in completing required legal steps to enter these third countries and cooperated with local authorities and Vietnamese associations to provide them with temporary accommodations, food and other necessities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been busy working with concerned ministries and agencies and airlines for the takeoff of two repatriation flights. One from Romania has just arrived in Hanoi while the other will depart from Poland on March 9.

Vietnamese fresh chili approved for export to China

Vietnam’s fresh chili products have been officially approved by Chinese authorities for export to the world’s largest consumer market.

According to information from the trade agency of the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the General Department of Customs of China has recently announced the approval of 5 Vietnamese fresh chili producers to export to China from March 3, 2022.

According to the notice of the Chinese agency, Vietnamese fresh chili products exported to China must meet the country's phytosanitary requirements. Batches of fresh chili must be quarantined by Vietnamese functional units or establishments authorized by Vietnamese functional units.

Mr. Nong Duc Lai, Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in China, said that these are the first 5 Vietnamese enterprises licensed for official export again, after China temporarily stopped importing fresh chili from Vietnam.

The demand of the country of 1.4 billion people for agricultural products and food is very large, so Vietnamese businesses need to study carefully to meet the increasing requirements of the Chinese market, thus promoting official export and ensuring stable output for Vietnam’s agricultural industry.

Counselor Nong Duc Lai also said that as of March 4, 2022, a total of 1,808 codes of agricultural products and food products were issued by Chinese authorities to Vietnamese enterprises for official export to the market.

HCM City, EuroCham sign agreement to develop tourism

The Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City Department of Tourism and the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Vietnam on March 7 signed a cooperation agreement for the 2022-2024 period.

At the signing ceremony, the city Department of Tourism and EuroCham agreed on 7 contents, promising to promote the development of MICE tourism and culinary tourism and strongly strengthen the activities of market research, tourism statistics, human resource training as well as sharing of methods and experiences in tourism management and administration.

This cooperation will allow HCM City tourism to increase the opportunity to expand direct channels promoting the city’s image to European companies and citizens in Vietnam as well as abroad.

On this occasion, the city Department of Tourism and Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company Limited (VIAGS) agreed to sign a cooperation agreement for the 2022-2027 period in order to strengthen cooperation in the promotion of tourism in the southern hub, contributing to the recovery of the tourism industry after the pandemic, especially air travel.

Accordingly, the signing of the agreement aims to increase the number and quality of tourists, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s tourism in general and tourist destinations of Ho Chi Minh City in particular through mutual support in carrying out market research and building the tourism brand of HCM City. At the same time, the two sides coordinated to welcome MICE delegations to the city.

In her speech at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the City Department of Tourism, believes that the cooperation between the Department and Eurocham and VIAGS is an important milestone, creating a premise for the city’s tourism strongly recover and develop further when the city begins to open to international visitors from March 15.

“To do this, the city’s tourism industry identifies cooperation contents that need to be implemented in an effective, practical and timely manner; with the focus on the immediate key tasks of restoring tourism human resources, improving the quality of tourism services and products,” said Ms. Hoa./.
