According to Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Planning Department, this is the first time the agricultural sector has a common strategy. After the strategy was approved, the ministry's leaders had a meeting with affiliated units to discuss solutions for implementation.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said that the strategy lays out the foundation to reorganize production for agriculture and rural development, and agricultural restructuring.
The agricultural industry will have to innovate production thinking, with the focus on agricultural economics; enhancement of value and efficiency and diversification along the value chain in line with market requirements, he added.
Accordingly, the Strategy sets specific targets of achieving average agricultural GDP growth rate from 2.5% to 3% a year, and the income of rural residents 2.5 to 3 times higher than that of 2020. The rate of multidimensionally poor households in rural areas will decrease by 1% to 1.5% a year on average.
By 2050, Vietnam strives to become one of the leading agricultural countries in the world with a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural product processing industry.
