Ho Chi Minh City – Cuba trade relations see considerable growth

Cuban General Consul to Ho Chi Minh City Indira Lopez Arguelles has said that Cuba is ready to welcome Vietnamese businesses to invest in Cuba, and that Cuba's market-oriented economic reform policy, especially the new Enterprise Law, will create more favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including Vietnamese ones.

She made the statement while being received in a farewell reception hosted by Phan Van Mai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People’s Committee, on December 14.

During the reception, Mr. Mai highly appreciated the affection and role of the Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City - Cuba relations, contributing to the development of the two countries' relations in terms of politics, economy, culture and people-to-people diplomacy. Especially, in terms of trade, in the first 10 months of 2021, the total two-way trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Cuba reached USD50.47 million, an increase of 190% over the same period in 2020, which he said is a remarkable development.

He also highly appreciated the role of the Cuban Consul General in connecting Cuban businesses and Ho Chi Minh City businesses; showing his wish that she, regardless of working position, would continue to be an important bridge and contribute more actively to the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, including the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Cuban localities.

According to Cuban Consul General Indira Lopez Arguelles, Cuba and Ho Chi Minh City currently have a lot of potential for cooperation in education, especially when the demand for Spanish language training in Vietnam is increasing. In addition, Cuba will continue to strengthen cooperation in agricultural biology and health with Ho Chi Minh City. She highly appreciated the people-to-people diplomacy activities between Ho Chi Minh City and Cuban localities, including painting contests to help young generations of the two countries better understand the relationship between the two countries. At the same time, she suggested that Ho Chi Minh City should increase tours to Cuba.
