This information was shared by Pham Minh Man, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, at a recent conference organized by the City People’s Committee to promote investment in social housing. "This number aligns with the target set in the Prime Minister’s program of building one million social housing units," Mr. Man stated.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City has called for investment in social housing projects on seven public land plots spanning more than 27 hectares, requiring a total investment of VND386 trillion.
Following the announcement of these seven projects, 21 enterprises have registered and pledged to construct nearly 52,200 social housing units by 2030. Among these, nine enterprises already have land in districts 7, Binh Tan, Binh Chanh, and Thu Duc City, accounting for over 11,600 units. The remaining enterprises committed to finding land within the city to invest in more than 40,500 units.
Mr. Man also highlighted a public investment package of VND11 trillion aimed at building 10,000 social housing units. Combining these three sources, the city expects to have 70,000 units by 2030.
At the conference, Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, acknowledged the city's efforts to address concerns raised by enterprises and associations, though results have yet to meet expectations. Moving forward, the city pledged to improve its processes, including urban planning, land preparation, infrastructure connections, policymaking, and streamlining investment procedures for enterprises.
In addition to promoting investment in social housing, the Chairman announced plans to construct 100,000 new accommodations by 2025 for workers, laborers, and public officials in collaboration with the city’s Labor Federation./.
