HCMC promotes investment in culture and sports projects

The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People's Committee organized a conference on October 15 to promote investment in projects in the field of culture and sports in 2024.

The event was attended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Van Mai.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran The Thuan, Director of the HCMC Department of Culture and Sports, said that the city is proposing to call for investment in 40 projects, 23 of which have already been approved by the municipal People's Council for investment.

He said that the city is planning to build a performing arts center in District 5; a Gia Dinh theater in Binh Thanh District; a HCMC cultural center in District 1; an art and cultural center in the Thu Thiem new urban area; and a multipurpose cultural and sports center in Can Gio District.

Speaking at the conference, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that in the coming time HCMC needs to closely coordinate with central ministries, branches and relevant localities to effectively carry out a number of key tasks, such as: promoting linkage, development cooperation, enhancing cultural exchanges and diplomacy, and promoting the soft power of culture to enhance the competitiveness and position of the country and the city in the international arena.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the HCMC People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that the event provides an opportunity for the cultural sector to present investment projects in the cultural and sports field, while also listening to investors’ feedback to improve policies for developing the cultural industry.

He called for opinions from cultural experts and investors on how to enhance the city’s policies and mechanisms to pave the way for future investment and development.

During the conference, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee introduced the plan for the development of the city's cultural industry by 2030.

It also called for investment in five new cultural and sports projects through public-private partnerships (PPP), including: the A-B Labor Art Performance Center; Gia Dinh Theater; Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Center; Ho Chi Minh City Cultural and Artistic Center in Thu Thiem; and the Ho Chi Minh City Multi-Purpose Cultural and Sports Center in Can Gio District.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, as of September 2024, the total investment for the construction of these five projects is estimated at nearly 2,352 billion VND.

One of the key projects is the construction of a Cultural and Sports Center in Can Gio District, at an estimated cost of VND1,642 billion.

Another major initiative is the HCMC Cultural and Arts Center in Thu Thiem Ward, Thu Duc City, which will span nearly 18,000 square meters and accommodate 3,000 spectators. The center is set to host large-scale cultural and arts events.

Other proposed projects include the HCMC Cultural Center in District 1, with an estimated cost of VND295 billion, the Gia Dinh Theater in Binh Thanh District at VND250 billion, and the A-B Labor Performing Arts Center in District 5 at VND164 billion./.
