Ho Chi Minh City actively promotes multilateral cooperation with Thailand

He made the statement on December 2 while attending a celebration to commemorate the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand (December 5, 1927 – 2024) held by the Thai Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

On behalf of the city's leadership, Vice Chairman Vo Van Hoan extended warm congratulations to the Consul General, the staff of the Consulate General, and the people of Thailand.

According to Mr. Vo Van Hoan, the Vietnam-Thailand relationship has continued to make significant progress in 2024. The two countries not only strengthened their strategic partnership but also expanded cooperation across various key sectors. Thailand is now Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN, with a goal of achieving USD25 billion in bilateral trade in the coming years. Agreements in areas such as e-commerce, logistics, energy security, and climate change response have bolstered supply chain integration and sustainable development.

Cultural, tourism, and educational exchanges have further deepened the bond and cooperation between the two peoples. These advancements underscore the shared commitment to building a brighter future.

In Ho Chi Minh City, cooperation with Thailand has been a priority, yielding numerous positive outcomes. Thailand is a significant partner in trade, investment, culture, and tourism. Events like the Thai Festival and the annual blood donation drives have fostered mutual understanding and closer ties between the citizens of both nations. Mr. Vo Van Hoan acknowledged the contributions of the Thai community in Ho Chi Minh City and expressed confidence in the continued growth and strengthening of these relations.

Ms. Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Consul General of Thailand to Ho Chi Minh City, highlighted that the coming year promises a new chapter of opportunities in Vietnam-Thailand relations. Both countries are committed to elevating their strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership, with a goal of achieving USD25 billion in bilateral trade.

This goal will be pursued through the “Three Connections” strategy, focusing on supply chain integration, grassroots economic connectivity, and the alignment of sustainable growth strategies.

Ms. Wiraka also announced plans by the Thai Consulate General and the Thai government to commemorate the 49th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam in 2024, progressing toward the 50th anniversary in 2026. The “Thai Festival Week in Ho Chi Minh City,” set to kick off early next year, will be the first of many activities throughout the year, fostering cultural and economic exchanges./.
