Metro Line 2 is the only project in the city using ODA from Germany, through the German Bank for Reconstruction (KfW). The funded capital is used for the package of Control of Project Implementation and Construction Supervision (CS2B), consultancy, assessment, system safety certification and equipment procurement packages.

As planned, the Government will sign the contract and will promptly advance and disburse the CS2B package by mid 2022. Currently, the southern city proposes the Ministry of Finance soon carry out the re-borrowing appraisal procedure for the additional loan with KfW.

Earlier, Metro Line 2 received two loans from KfW with a total value of 313 million USD (about 71 trillion VND) for consulting and electromechanical works. These loans have expired from the end of 2020, but have not been extended.

Metro Line 2 has a total length of more than 11km, passing through 6 districts of HCM City, including: Districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu), with a total clearance area of more than 250,000m2. Construction is expected to start in 2022 and be completed in 2026 with a total investment of about 2.1 billion USD (equivalent to 47.9 trillion VND).

In particular, KfW, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will finance the project with nearly 37.5 trillion VND, the remaining of more than 10.4 trillion VND being reciprocal capital from Vietnam./.
