Southern hub to spend VND1,000 billion caring for poor during Tet

(CPV) - Ho Chi Minh City is preparing various activities for the 2025 Lunar New Year with an estimated total budget of approximately VND975 billion. The city plans to host gatherings for revolutionary veterans, intellectuals and scholars; visit and present gifts to families of war veterans, policy beneficiaries and social welfare recipients; and ensure holiday care for workers and laborers.

In addition, trade unions at various levels will provide support for around 500,000 workers, with a planned expenditure of approximately VND500 billion.
During the 20th session of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council held on December 10, Le Van Thinh, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, provided details on the city's preparations, including paying respects at Martyrs' Cemeteries; organizing gatherings for revolutionary veterans, intellectuals and scholars; conducting visits and delivering Tet greetings to families of war veterans, policy beneficiaries and social welfare recipients; and providing Tet care and gifts for workers and laborers.
The total estimated budget includes VND16.5 billion from central government funds; VND908 billion from the city budget; and over VND50 billion from mobilized resources.
The department is collaborating with the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor to implement initiatives such as the “Warm Tet Gathering” program, the “Workers’ Day Fair of Solidarity” initiative, visiting enterprises and laborers working on key projects during the Tet holiday, organizing events for workers’ families who remain in the city for the holiday, and the “Compassionate Ticket” program.
Ho Chi Minh City has also instructed trade unions at all levels to prioritize support for their members, with care projected for over 500,000 individuals at an estimated cost of VND500 billion.
The department has issued plans to strengthen oversight of Tet-related welfare, including salaries and bonuses provided by businesses in the city./.
