From June 2nd-6th, a delegation from the northern province of Quang Ninh led by Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, paid a working visit to the Russian Federation’s Irkutsk province, aiming to promote cooperation between the two sides.

Talking with the delegation, Sergey G. Levchenko, Governor of Irkutsk province, said that the two localities had great potential for cooperation, especially in healthcare, education and tourism, and especially as Quang Ninh was going to put Van Don International Airport into use.
According to Mr. Long, this was the first visit to Irkutsk province by Quang Ninh province leaders, which showed the province’s desire to set up friendship and the long-term cooperative relationship with the Russian province.
Informing of Quang Ninh province’s socio-economic development, Mr. Long stressed its strong industrial areas, including mining and tourism. “Quang Ninh province has great advantages in traffic links when the Ha Long – Hai Phong and Ha Long – Van Don highways, as well as the Van Don International Airport, are completed,” he said.
He added that the two sides should study to establish a flight route from Irkutsk to Van Don so that, in only 6 hours, tourists and businesses can travel between the two sides.
During the meeting, Mr. Long and Mr. Sergey G. Levchenko signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on establishing the friendly relationship between Quang Ninh and Irkutsk provinces, agreeing that the two sides will regularly exchange delegations to increase mutual understanding and cooperation in tourism, economics, healthcare, culture, education, agriculture and ecology./.
