Vietnam - Laos special relationship

Vietnam and Laos officially set up their diplomatic relationship on September 5th, 1962. Since then, the relationship has continuously been fostered and developed in all areas.
President Ho Chi Minh received and talked with Kaysone Phomvihane, Head of the delegation from the Lao Party and Front, on a visit to Vietnam. 

President Ho Chi Minh received President Souphanouvong at Viet Bac base in 1958.

On July 18th, 1977, in Vientiane, Pham Van Dong, Vietnam’s Prime Minister, and his Lao counterpart Kaysone Phomvihane, signed the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Communist Party of Vietnam General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in 2017 in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith reviewed the guard of honour in 2016 in Hanoi.

State President Tran Dai Quang and Lao Party General Secretary and State President Bounnhang Volachith reviewed the guard of honour in 2016 in Vientiane.
