The Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association has made significant contributions to the two countries’ traditional friendship, solidarity and cooperation since its foundation 60 years ago, a Vietnamese diplomat has said.

The statement was made by Nguyen Quynh Mai, Counsellor and Chargé d’affaires at the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, at the association’s congress to review its five-year operation in Moscow on November 22nd.

Delivering a report reviewing the association’s operations, its President Vladimir Buianov recalled the association’s development process with a number of specific and practical activities held to help Russians understand more about the Vietnamese situation as well as the necessity to continue nurturing and developing their country’s relations with Vietnam.

The association has become a main partner of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, contributing to consolidating the two nations’ cooperation in economics, culture and education.

It has coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy and social organisations in organising numerous cultural, educational and charitable events, as well as cooperating closely with Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the Institute of Far Eastern Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Asian and African Studies under the Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

The association has also published several books featuring Russians’ views about President Ho Chi Minh, the late leader’s political biography, the first Vietnamese in the Kremlin, and important milestones in the bilateral cooperation.

The annual painting competition entitled “I draw Vietnam – I draw Russia” is one of the main activities held by the association, which has helped nurture the sentiments towards and awareness of the special bilateral relations at an early age, Buianov said.

He affirmed that his association always attaches importance to Russia’s relations with Vietnam and exerts its efforts to nurture and develop the ties.

At the congress, association members reached a consensus on re-electing Buianov as the association’s President for the 2018-2023 tenure.

The association was presented the Friendship Order for its great contributions to developing friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ peoples./.
