Chau Hong Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap provincial People’s Committee, said that his locality has promoted diverse cooperative relationships with Lao localities.
In education and training, Champasak province has presented scholarships in learning Lao language to Dong Thap province officers. In addition, since 2017, Dong Thap province has received 27 Lao students who study healthcare and agriculture.
According to Mr. Phuc, agricultural, industrial and commercial development has been reported in the province. In particular, its rice productivity ranks 3rd among Mekong River Delta localities, with an area of some 545,987 hectares and the average productivity of 6.2 million tons per year. There are currently some 550 food processing foundations which are capable of processing 2.6 million tons per year, serving domestic demand and exports.
Being a key area for tra fish production, Dong Thap has developed 1,500 hectares, producing nearly 390,000 tons and exporting over USD263 million, accounting for 10% of the total export of the Mekong River Delta region.
Trade and service has developed widely in the province, with the turnover of over VND60 trillion. Meanwhile, the traffic, logistics and industrial zone infrastructure has been completed, together with nearly 1 million people in the working age. “These advantages will be favourable conditions for domestic and foreign businesses to invest in the province,” said Mr. Phuc, adding that he hoped Dong Thap province and Lao localities will have diverse opportunities to discuss investment cooperation for modern economic development.
Vi Xien Na Vi Kun, Vice Chief of the Salavan province, said the province needs to promote projects on increasing production quality using modern technologies and serving aquaculture, handicraft industry, hydro-electricity and food processing in Dong Thao province, thus reinforcing the Laos -Vietnam friendly ties./.
