JICA supports Thua Thien – Hue’s green and sustainable urban development

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has suggested its continued support for Thua Thien – Hue province in improving urban environment by developing its waste management and treatment process, and assisting the project on increasing tourism development ability through the cooperation with Gifu prefecture, Koyama city and Gifu University.
Chairman of the Thua Thien – Hue provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngoc Tho has worked with JICA Vietnam on its implementation of the program on developing Hue cultural heritage urban area in a green and sustainable way.

Accordingly, JICA suggested its continued support for the province in improving urban environment by developing waste management and treatment process from 2020 to 2030; carrying out a project on increasing tourism ability by promoting cultural heritage; and a project on climate change and natural disaster adaptation.
Meanwhile, the province proposed JICA give technical and resource support to some projects, including the ones on socio-economic infrastructure, agricultural-urban model development, reduction of gas emission, and development of green traffic and waste treatment.
Appreciating JICA practical support, Chairman Tho said that the development of heritage and cultural urban Hue in a green and sustainable way is one of the province’s priorities in developing tourism, education, specialized healthcare, hi-tech agriculture, environmental protection, climate change adaptation and natural disaster management.
Over the past years, JICA projects have made remarkable contributions to green growth and urban development in Thua Thien – Hue. Notable were the project on building society in adaptation with natural disasters; the project on restoring and sustainable managing protective forests; the project on managing urban waste; and the project on improving water environment./.
