Ho Chi Minh city hopes for increased cooperation with Australia

The information was provided by Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee, during his reception on June 17^th for Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick as he said a farewell at the end of his working term in Vietnam.

During the reception, Mr. Phong congratulated the Australian Ambassador on his successful working term in Vietnam, and appreciated his contributions to promote the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Australia, including Ho Chi Minh city.

According to Mr. Phong, apart from economics and tourism cooperation, educational cooperation is also an outstanding point in the bilateral relationship. “Vietnam is the country with the 3^rd largest number of international students in Australia,” he said, adding that RMIT University in Ho Chi Minh city had operated efficiently and become a favorite choice of Vietnamese students.

He also noted that the Vietnamese city cared for innovation and start-up cooperation with Australia.

Expressing his hope that the Australian Ambassador would continue his affection for Vietnam ffrom future working positions and support the bilateral relationship, Mr. Phong suggested that Ambassador Craig Chittick should propose the Australian Foreign Minister and the next Australian Ambassador to Vietnam continue to encourage Australian businesses to increase the promotion of investment, trade, tourism, education, food processing, agricultural production, start-up and innovation, and the building of smart urban areas in Ho Chi Minh city.

Saying thanks to Ho Chi Minh city’s leaders for supporting his working term in Vietnam, Ambassador Craig Chittick confirmed that he had made efforts to develop mutual trust, contributing to promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Australia, including Ho Chi Minh city.
