Creating driving force for Vietnam-RoK relations

On August 2-3, Permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Vo Van Thuong and the Party high-ranking delegation had a number of meetings with the Republic of Korea (RoK) officials.

Accordingly, he met with Speaker of the RoK's National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo, leaders of the ruling People Power Party, the head of the Senior Advisory Board of the President, the Minister of Employment and Labour, the SMEs and Startups Agency, and a number of RoK organisations such as the RoK-Vietnam Friendship Association, the Korea-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, Korea-Vietnam Economic and Cultural Exchange Association (KOVECA), and Association of Korean People Loving Vietnam (VESAMO). The delegation also visited the Space Technology Centre of SK Group and Samsung Town.

At the meeting with RoK's National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo and with Korean agencies and organizations, Mr. Thuong informed about the policy, development line, foreign policy, key issues related to the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the results achieved, especially in the areas that the RoK is interested in, and the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the relationship of the Communist Party of Vietnam with the political parties and other partners around the world.

He affirmed the policy of strengthening relations with the ROK, as Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stated at an online talks with Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, that "We have a full objective and subjective basis to further develop the two countries' relations in the coming time." Vietnam creates favorable conditions for Korean investors and businesses, as recently Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held dialogues and discussions to promote the tackling of problems faced by Korean businesses in Vietnam.

He asked Korean NA Speaker Kim Jin Pyo to support the two sides' continued strengthening of political ties through exchanges at all levels, strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation, bringing labor cooperation key area, and together with the National Assembly of Vietnam actively implement the agreements reached during the visit to the RoK by Vietnamese NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in December 2021. He also raised suggestions and directions with Korean organizations and businesses to promote cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

He also suggested that the RoK continue to support the stances of ASEAN and Vietnam on promoting peace and cooperation in the East Sea, implementing the DOC, soon moving towards an effective and efficient COC and strictly implementing the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The Korean NA Speaker and his Korean partners emphasized that cooperation with Vietnam is a model for relations with other countries, agreeing and actively exchanging on the issues raised by the Vietnamese delegation. He affirmed that the relations between the two countries have developed comprehensively, believing in the great potential of a long-term and sustainable relationship between the two countries.

The head of the Senior Advisory Board of the Korean President emphasized Korean President’s attaching of importance on promoting relations with Vietnam in all aspects in the coming time. The Korean side agreed on the importance of maintaining peace, security, and freedom of navigation and overflight in accordance with UNCLOS, and supported Vietnam's stances regarding ASEAN.

Leaders of the Korean side thanked Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for their affection and greetings.

The PPP representative said that it would organize a Party delegation to visit Vietnam to discuss and strengthen the relationship between the two Parties, creating a driving force for the two countries' relations to develop further in the coming time./.
