Diplomatic relations between Netherlands and Vietnam constantly developed

Over the past half century, since official diplomatic relations were established in April 1973, the relationship between Vietnam and the Netherlands has continuously developed and made great strides, and in 2019, the two countries upgraded their bilateral relations to Comprehensive Partnership. Since then, the two sides have cooperated extensively in many fields, from politics to diplomacy, economics, trade and investment.

So said Chairman of the Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City Tran Trong Dung on May 6 during a meeting to celebrate the National Day of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the 57th birthday of King Willem Alexander (April 27, Dutch King's Day).

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City Tran Trong Dung said that the relationship between the two countries had been ongoing for more than four centuries.

He highly appreciated the fact that the Netherlands is currently the largest investor of the European Union in Ho Chi Minh City with a total investment capital of more than USD5.1 billion. Ho Chi Minh City is also developing an action plan to implement a new phase of memorandum of understanding in flood control related fields with the Netherlands.

According to Mr. Dung, even though it was established just over two years ago, the Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City has carried out many meaningful activities such as organizing a cycling parade attracting the participation of more than 500 cyclists, including many citizens of the Netherlands and other countries; organizing a Friendship Caravan program for members; and organizing for members of the Classic Car Club to participate in promoting a number of festivals in Dong Thap and Ninh Thuan.

Addressing the meeting, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ho Chi Minh City Daniel Stork highly appreciated the activities of the Vietnam - Netherlands Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City that he said have contributed to strengthening relations between the two countries. According to Consul General Daniel Stork, the bright spots in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the Netherlands can be mentioned in the visit of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Vietnam at the end of 2023 and the visit of a major Dutch economic delegation in March. Such visits also strengthen the relationship between the two countries in many areas.

Noting that recently, a Dutch semiconductor enterprise has invested in Ho Chi Minh City's high-tech park, he said it clarified that the business cooperation relationship between the two countries is increasingly expanding./.
