The event was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) on November 12.
Mr. Pham Thanh Kien highlighted the recent joint initiatives between Vietnam and the United States in education development, student exchange and environmental protection. Both nations have collaborated on projects to strengthen resilience for coastal mangrove ecosystems, deepen partnership in the Mekong Delta, and advance cooperation within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership. These projects have not only strengthened ties between the two peoples but also brought practical benefits for the future.
He expressed his gratitude to U.S. officials, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and the American people for their efforts in deepening bilateral relations and fostering people-to-people exchanges, thereby reinforcing the friendship between the people of Vietnam, including those in Ho Chi Minh City, and the people of the United States.
Mr. Pham Thanh Kien emphasized that the advancements in people-to-people diplomacy between Vietnam and the U.S. are the result of the dedicated cultivation and upgrading of the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. U.S. President Joe Biden once remarked that elevating the relationship between Vietnam and the U.S. is just the first step in shaping the future of bilateral relations. Mr. Kien hopes that, in the coming period, Vietnam and the U.S. will continue to promote people-to-people exchanges and seek new initiatives to strengthen the connection between the communities of both nations.
Speaking at the gathering, Ms. Susan Burns, U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, noted that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has expanded bilateral cooperation in many areas, benefiting the people of both countries. Cooperation in trade, investment, law enforcement, health, veteran exchanges and education is grounded in mutual understanding, trust and friendship between the peoples of the two nations.
Appreciating HUFO’s efforts to deepen the friendship between the two countries over the past three decades, Ms. Burns expressed her hope that in 2025, HUFO will introduce more initiatives to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in fields such as science and technology, education, human resource development and people-to-people exchanges.
Mr. Rafik Mansour, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, affirmed that the one-year anniversary of the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a significant milestone. Since then, the two countries have not only prioritized economic cooperation but also expanded opportunities for mutual innovation.
Mr. Rafik Mansour expressed his hope that HUFO would continue to build upon its achievements, honor shared values, and deepen bilateral cooperation as they look forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2025./.
