Hanoi attaches importance to and gives priority to promoting cooperative relations with RoK

Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung expressed his pleasure at the increasingly good development of the Vietnam – Republic of Korea (RoK) relationship, especially the event that the two countries raised the level of relations 30 years after establishing diplomatic relations.

He made the statement on December 14 while receiving Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Oh Young Ju as she starts a new working term in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Secretary Dung said that in the 2020-2022 period, Hanoi as well as localities throughout the country have firmly prevented and controlled the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a premise for timely reopening and bringing the economy back to normal. As a result, the capital's economy in 2021 grew by 2.91%, 2.58% higher than the national average. In 2022, Hanoi's economy is expected to grow by 8.8%, and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) of about USD1.28 billion.

According to Mr. Dung, in the future, Hanoi is building many important urban plans, striving towards sustainable development; promoting long-term and key strategic projects. He stated that Hanoi wishes to develop its economy while best preserving the cultural values, towards building an advanced and modern city; to become a resource center to promote the development of the Red River Delta region, the northern key economic region and the whole country; extensive international integration, becoming a globally connected city, with a comprehensive, unique and harmonious economic, cultural and social development, typical for the whole country.

“In Hanoi’s process of strong development, the RoK has made important contributions in many fields, being the third largest foreign direct investor in the capital,” he said. “In the first 10 months of 2022, the city has attracted about USD120 million in investment from Korean businesses.”

He emphasized that Hanoi always appreciates the role of the Korean Ambassador to Vietnam, who has had many new initiatives and ideas, contributing to the friendly relationship between the RoK and Vietnam in general and with Hanoi in particular. He also affirmed that the city is ready to coordinate with the Korean side to organize cultural and practical events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For her part, Korean Ambassador Oh Young Ju affirmed that dynamism, capacity and openness are the qualities that will help Hanoi capital always be the locomotive of development of Vietnam. She affirmed that the management of the Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee will contribute to the city's development and prosperity, attracting the attention of international investors; and expressed her agreement to promote cooperation in the fields that Hanoi is interested in. The ambassador expressed her belief that, with Hanoi's support, events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries would take place successfully.

At the meeting, the two sides spent a lot of time sharing on a number of issues of mutual concern. Through the exchanges, Ambassador Oh Young Ju affirmed that the Embassy always focuses on promoting investment channels of Korean businesses into Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular./.
