At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the relationship between Hanoi and Jakarta in recent years. Accordingly, the governments of Hanoi and Jakarta signed three memorandums of understanding on friendship and cooperation in 2003, 2004 and 2017, promoting cooperation in areas such as urban planning management, staff training, tourism, culture, physical training and sports and traffic.
Indonesia is also one of the five ASEAN countries with the highest number of tourists to Hanoi with a total of 43,041 arrivals in 2019. Since reopening to international tourism on March 15, 2022, the number of international visitors has started to increase again, of which Indonesian visitors reached 4,035. In October 2017, the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam opened the Umah Indo Center in Hanoi to promote the Indonesian tourism, trade and culture in Vietnam.
In order to further strengthen bilateral cooperation activities between Hanoi and Jakarta, the two sides have agreed on a number of cooperation directions in the coming time, including promoting exchanges of delegations and professional bodies; supporting businesses to promote investment, trade and tourism; exchanging experiences in urban development and management, and environmental protection; exchanging cultural affairs; sharing experience in building mechanisms and policies to develop a civilized, modern and sustainable capital.
On behalf of the Jakarta Capital Council, Mr. Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, Chairman of the City Council, wished to continue to strengthen friendly cooperation, exchange and share experiences of the Capital Councils of the two countries, and affirmed that Jakarta always creates the best conditions to promote the good cooperative relationship between the two capitals.
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan invited Mr. Prasetyo Edi Marsudi and the delegation of the Jakarta Capital Council to visit Hanoi in the near future, and wished for the cooperation between Hanoi and Jakarta to continue to develop, gaining many new achievements in the future.
During the program, the Hanoi delegation visited and surveyed the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), which was completed and put into operation in 2019, making an important contribution to solving the city's traffic congestion./.
