Hanoi - Kuala Lumpur direct flight helps promote people-to-people exchanges

So said Mr. Tan Yang Thai, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, at a meeting with President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga on March 13, in Hanoi.

Impressed by Vietnam's economic development in recent years, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai said that Malaysia has invested in Vietnam since the 1970s and is now the second largest investor in ASEAN in Vietnam. More and more Malaysian investors and businesses are interested in learning about the Vietnamese market. The Ambassador wished to promote cooperation in the private sector of Malaysia - Vietnam, making an important contribution to the two countries' people-to-people diplomacy.

In terms of tourism, Malaysia is one of the 10 largest tourist markets of Vietnam in Asia. Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed his belief that the resumption of direct flights between Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur in February will open up many opportunities for exchanges between the people of the two countries.

Malaysia also wants to increase the number of Vietnamese students doing postgraduate studies there. According to the Malaysian Ambassador, many Vietnamese former students in Malaysia have been making positive contributions to the two countries' relations.

Speaking at the meeting, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga congratulated Ambassador Tan Yang Thai on his assignment in Vietnam. She wished the Ambassador a successful term, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Malaysia.

She affirmed that Vietnamese leaders and people always have good feelings for the Malaysian people and attach great importance to developing relations with traditional friends in the ASEAN region. VUFO and the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association are always ready to coordinate with the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam to organize activities to strengthen the solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the Vietnamese and Malaysian people.

In 2023, Vietnam and Malaysia will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This is an important event for the two countries. VUFO and the Vietnam - Malaysia Friendship Association look forward to working closely with the Embassy to organize welcome activities./.
