At the meeting, Nguyen Van Chi, Director of Hanoi's Rural Development Sub-Department, shared that from October 21 to 23, the World Crafts Council's delegation conducted surveys and evaluated criteria to consider recognizing Bat Trang Pottery Village (Gia Lam district) and Van Phuc Silk Village (Ha Dong district) as members of the World Crafts Cities Creative Network.
The Council noted that Bat Trang Pottery Village not only meets all the criteria of a traditional craft village, but is also deserving of becoming a member of the World Crafts Cities Creative Network.
In addition, the Council recognized the unique values of Van Phuc Silk Village, particularly its rich cultural and historical heritage.
At the meeting, Aziz Murtazaev, President of the World Crafts Council Asia-Pacific Region, stated that he was truly impressed by the history, traditions and values of these craft villages and appreciate the dedication of the artisans in preserving and developing Hanoi's craft villages."
The World Crafts Council representative highlighted that few places in the world possess the potential for craft village development like Hanoi. The city should prioritize craft villages in its development strategy, increase investment and promote these products to make Hanoi’s handmade goods more recognized globally, according to Mr. Aziz Murtazaev.
The World Crafts Council also affirmed its willingness to collaborate with Hanoi by bringing international experts, businesses, and artisans to exchange experiences and promote the development of local craft villages.
During the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen emphasized that Hanoi currently has 1,350 craft villages and traditional craft villages, accounting for 56% of the total number of craft villages in the country. He also highlighted that Hanoi identifies craft villages as a key strength for its development.
