Hanoi willing to promote cooperation and investment with businesses in California

On July 31, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh received a business delegation from US state of California led by Ms. Sheng Thao, Mayor of Oakland City, on his visit to tighten ties between Vietnam and California, as well as promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries' localities.

Expressing his pleasure to welcome the Mayor of Oakland and California businesses, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that 2023 marks 10 years of the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Partnership. Currently, the relationship between the two countries has developed deeply, effectively and substantively on bilateral, regional and international levels.

According to Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh, the two countries want to balance trade policies so that the they develop sustainably and harmoniously for bringing benefit to both.

The Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee shared that Hanoi is in an important development stage. The city has identified a number of priority sectors and fields to attract investment in line with the general development trend, which can participate in global value chains; at the same time exploiting the advantages of the capital as well as the strengths of the provinces and cities in the region such as real estate, commercial infrastructure, high-tech industry, environmentally friendly and low energy consumption.

He added that Hanoi prioritizes investment promotion in a number of value-added fields in the coming time such as agriculture, tourism, education - health, key industries such as high-tech projects, biotechnology and supporting industries. Therefore, he welcomed the visit of the California business delegation to Vietnam to seek investment and cooperation opportunities with Hanoi, and committed that the capital's government is ready to support and create conditions to promote new projects in the area, further contributing to the development of bilateral and local relations.

Agreeing with the sharing and suggestions of the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Ms. Sheng Thao expressed her belief that the cooperation between the two countries as well as localities will bring effective results in the future.

At the meeting, US businesses shared about Oakland's strong areas such as ports, waste treatment, and clean technology development. The state of California has invested billions of dollars in reducing emissions, while strongly developing land, sea and air transportation. Therefore, US businesses expect to have opportunities to invest and cooperate with Hanoi city in these fields./.
