Ho Chi Minh City aims to be pioneer in implementing cooperation with Japan

Chairman Phan Van Mai expressed his pleasure in welcoming Hataeda Mikio and the delegation to Ho Chi Minh City. He shared that the results of cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan are reflected not only in the projects both sides have implemented, but also in the spirit of collaboration and the working methods of the JICA team, which have positively influenced the Vietnamese teams involved in these projects.

He also emphasized that the recent operation of the second phase of the wastewater treatment plant, and especially the upcoming commercial operation of Metro Line 1 by the end of this year, stand as beautiful symbols of the partnership between Vietnam, Japan and Ho Chi Minh City, which is honored to implement these projects. He stated that Ho Chi Minh City aims to be a pioneer in implementing cooperation with Japan, turning ideas into meaningful projects that further enhance collaboration between the two nations.

Mr. Hataeda Mikio, Senior Vice President of JICA, expressed his gratitude for the support provided by Ho Chi Minh City's leadership for the projects that JICA has been and is currently implementing in the city. He affirmed that diplomatic relations between the two countries have been steadily growing, and JICA's activities have significantly supported Ho Chi Minh City over time. He noted that one of Vietnam's goals is to become a modern industrialized country by 2045, and as the most dynamic city in the country, Ho Chi Minh City needs to make significant breakthroughs to achieve this goal. JICA is honored and ready to contribute to the city’s efforts to reach this objective.

He also mentioned that in addition to ODA cooperation, JICA has been involved in human resource development across various fields, having participated in training business leaders in Ho Chi Minh City for many years. He expressed his hope that, in addition to traditional cooperation, the two sides would implement more initiatives in areas like Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and human resource development, using the tools that JICA has to further strengthen the partnership between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan, as well as the overall relationship between the two countries./.
