On April 25, the Investment & Trade Promotion Centre of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC), in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham), held  talks between leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and AmCham.

Attending the talks was Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, US Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns, AmCham President Gregory Testerman, more than 30 AmCham member businesses, and representatives of Ho Chi Minh City departments.

At the talks, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City always accompanies the domestic and foreign business community. “We are committed to increasing appropriate investment in infrastructure, institutions, human resources and living environment to create a favorable business and production environment and a good living environment for the business community and entrepreneurs working in Ho Chi Minh City,” he said.

AmCham member businesses exchanged ideas with Ho Chi Minh City's leaders on areas such as capital markets and financial services, health and welfare, food and beverage, education, digital economy, energy, taxes and customs.

Mr. Gregory Testerman, AmCham President expressed his optimism about Vietnam's macroeconomic prospects and was interested in the topic of sustainable finance. According to him, the flow of foreign direct investment into Vietnam increasingly requires higher environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, with many very strict regulations. Meanwhile, borrowers in Vietnam are not always fully prepared to meet these stringent requirements. Therefore, AmCham will push to close this gap, making it possible for borrowers in Vietnam to meet the criteria to easily get loans from financial institutions with strict ESG criteria.

Meanwhile, Ms. Susan Burns, US Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City, highly appreciated Ho Chi Minh City's support for US businesses to thrive and make long-term contributions to the city's growth over the past time.

She affirmed that the US diplomatic and business delegation always accompanies and makes efforts to support Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City to overcome short-term challenges and seize long-term opportunities to create benefits for the sides./.
