Ho Chi Minh City enhances cooperation with Australia

On May 13, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation led by Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the City People's Committee, arrived in Sydney to begin a working visit to Australia from May 12 to 18.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai and the delegation visited the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). UTS is a young university invested in modern technology, ranked in the top 100 universities in the world in the fields of engineering and computer science.

Sharing with the delegation, Professor Glenn Wightwick, Vice President of UTS, said the university has many cooperative relationships with Vietnamese partners, stressing the importance of its relationship with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

Accordingly, the two sides have set up cooperation programs on environmental protection, digital transformation and artificial intelligence. During the visit, the delegation visited a number of functional rooms and learned about simulation technology, 3D geography technology, and the university's super lab and modern library system.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai expressed his pleasure to visit UTS, expressing his hope to further promote education-training cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two cities and the two universities in the near future.

He also witnessed the signing of an agreement between UTS and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology on the joint doctoral training program.

After that, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the delegation had a working session with the Department of Transport and the agency in charge of e-government in the state of New South Wales, where Mr. Mai said that the delegation wanted to learn from the experience of the state in innovation and green growth.

Representatives of the host agencies introduced to the delegation about building a safe, reliable, integrated and effectively operated transportation system for citizens; and shared about promoting the effectiveness of traffic signals as well as experience in traffic management to reduce traffic congestion.

They also introduced to the delegation SCATS Technology, the technology that helps cities transform into smart urban areas through making predictions and building models for the future.

On the same day, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai and the delegation had a courtesy meeting with Ms. Margaret Beazley, Governor of New South Wales. Ms. Margaret Beazley expressed her impression of Ho Chi Minh City's development, especially in health and education.

The Governor of New South Wales supports further strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the fields of digital transformation, science and technology, innovation and green growth. She affirmed that the state of New South Wales is a suitable partner for Ho Chi Minh City in the above platforms, because New South Wales has a long history of technology development and has controlled the COVID-19 pandemic very effectively.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai affirmed that this visit aims to contribute to the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia that was just established in March 2024 and celebrate five years of establishing friendly relations between Ho Chi Minh City and New South Wales.

He emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City will implement many specific cooperation activities with New South Wales such as cooperation between universities, cooperation between the Department of Health and the University of Sydney, especially in innovation, digital transformation and green growth.
