Ho Chi Minh City National Assembly delegation visits Belgium and Germany

From December 7 to December 15, a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City’s National Assembly, led by Ha Phuoc Thang, Deputy Head of the specialized delegation, visited and worked in the Kingdom of Belgium and the Federal Republic of Germany.

In Belgium, the delegation engaged in a series of activities to gain a deeper understanding of the organizational structure and functions of the Belgian legislative system. They also studied the division of powers between the central government, regional authorities and local administrations.
Additionally, the delegation explored Belgium’s policies on healthcare, social welfare and social insurance. They conducted field visits to significant economic, technical and cultural institutions in the country.
This visit provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and localities in Belgium. Over the years, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Belgian localities has seen positive developments in various sectors.
In 2023, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations and five years of the Strategic Partnership on Agriculture, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed several high-level delegations from Belgium. Looking ahead, 2025 will commemorate five years of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), serving as a significant catalyst for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Following their visit to Belgium, the delegation traveled to Germany. The year 2025 will mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany (1975–2025), as well as 10 years of Ho Chi Minh City’s twinned-city relationship with Leipzig. Notably, in July 2021, the Leipzig City Council decided to elevate its relationship with Ho Chi Minh City from a "Twinned-City" to a "Partner City."
The Vietnam-Germany partnership has continuously strengthened and achieved significant milestones. During this visit, the delegation engaged in discussions to explore directions and measures to further enhance relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Leipzig, contributing positively to the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership.
Mr. Thang and other members of the Ho Chi Minh City National Assembly delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium to discuss cooperative initiatives./.
