At the meeting, Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen shared with Indian Ambassador Pranay Verma about his memories of his recent visit to India, and his feelings about the sincere affection between Vietnamese and Indian people.
He said that his most impressive memory was attending the inauguration ceremony of President Ho Chi Minh's statue in the Indian capital New Delhi on June 21, adding that Ho Chi Minh City is also promoting the inauguration of a statue of India's leader Mahatma Gandhi.
According to Mr. Nen, recently, there have been many events showing the affection and depth of the relationship between the two countries. He said he believed that in the future, the two sides will further tighten this relationship, not only in organizing and implementing cooperation programs in trade, tourism, economy, culture and society, but also in sharing common interests for mutual development.
For his part, Ambassador Pranay Verma said that the recent visits of the leaders of the two countries have demonstrated the close relationship, which he believes will contribute to the prosperous development and better relations between the two countries.
Noting that the bilateral trade turnover reached USD14 billion in 2021, he expressed his hope that the figure will exceed USD15 billion this year. “I am myself promoting investment in the fields of information technology, medicine and other infrastructure sectors, with many Indian businesses waiting to enter the Vietnamese market,” he said.
He added that India also has strengths in the fields of digital economic development and high-quality education and training, and is looking forward to cooperating with Vietnamese localities, especially Ho Chi Minh City in these areas; as well as promoting tourism, including spiritual tourism. “Direct flights connecting Indian localities with Ho Chi Minh City help promote relations between the two sides, not only in tourism and trade but also in people-to-people relations,” he went on to say.
Ambassador Pranay Verma especially appreciated the fact that Ho Chi Minh City is going to place the statue of leader Mahatma Gandhi at Tao Dan Park in the next few weeks./.
