Ho Chi Minh City wants to strengthen cooperation with US state

On April 11, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan received Mr. Joseph Nguyen, Washington State Senator (US) and a business delegation on a working visit to the city.

During the visit, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan introduced to the delegation the strengths and potential of the City as well as the challenges that it is facing. Accordingly, he stressed that Ho Chi Minh City is in need of drastic changes in production technology. In recent years, private economic activities have changed rapidly to meet the development needs of the world. The city is also orienting the development of a green economy and digital transformation to follow world trends. The city is also promoting green growth; therefore, the production process is moving in this direction such as green technology, green finance, the carbon credit model, and use of more renewable energy.

According to Mr. Hoan, Ho Chi Minh City is improving the quality of the service industry, focusing on new industries. The city is also building an international financial center project, hoping to promote investment from the US in the direction of semiconductor technology. Currently, the city is ready in terms of land, planning, human resources, and investor support mechanisms. Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan expressed his hope that investors from the US and Washington State in particular will join the city in building this project and the industries that the city is aiming to develop.

“The city always wants to strengthen friendly cooperation with localities and invites the Washington State Senator (US) and the business delegation to spend time participating in the annual economic forum and friendly dialogue expected to take place in mid-September,” he said.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Joseph Nguyen said that the delegation visiting and working in the city desires to tighten the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Washington State in the field of trade and economics. The Washington state delegation came to Vietnam first after the two countries upgraded relations. There will be many delegations from other states coming to Vietnam. Washington State has the potential for green technology transformation and information technology, which can help the two sides develop cooperation in the future. Mr. Joseph Nguyen expressed hope that after the meeting there will be deeper dialogues to have more specific cooperative actions in the future./.
