Ho Chi Minh strengthens cooperation with Lao localities

On July 31, Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, along with leaders from various departments of Ho Chi Minh City, held a meeting with a high-level delegation from the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) led by Santisouk Simmalavong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Technology and Communications.

On behalf of the Party, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Van Mai warmly welcomed Santisouk Simmalavong and the high-level delegation from the LPRP to visit and work in Ho Chi Minh City, extending heartfelt and sincere regards.

Chairman Phan Van Mai was pleased to observe that the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are increasingly being strengthened and consolidated. Notably, the visit to Laos by President To Lam in early July 2024 and the attendance of the Party General Secretary and President of Laos, Thonglun Sisulit, and his spouse at the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong demonstrate a unique international relationship.

Phan Van Mai affirmed that the Communist Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City always value and prioritize maintaining, consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. Ho Chi Minh City is honored to host, work with, and share experiences with many high-level Lao delegations.

Chairman Phan Van Mai appreciated the deepening and broadening friendship and cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Lao localities across many fields, achieving increasingly practical results.

Phan Van Mai expressed confidence that through this visit and meeting, many cooperation programs between Ho Chi Minh City and Lao localities will be promoted and developed in depth, including sharing experiences in economic-social development and investment attraction.

He reported to the delegation on the socio-economic development situation of Ho Chi Minh City, noting that the city is implementing a series of solutions and specific plans to achieve a GRDP growth target of 8.5-9% by 2030.

Chairman Phan Van Mai also provided information on investment attraction plans, growth targets, budget revenue, and key points of Resolution 31 of the Politburo on the development orientation and tasks of Ho Chi Minh City until 2030, with a vision to 2045, as well as Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on piloting special mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

By 2030, Ho Chi Minh City aims to develop into a modern service and industrial hub, a center for economy, culture, finance, trade, and a leading digital economy center of the country and the region. By 2045, Ho Chi Minh City will be a global city and a destination for international investors.

During the meeting, leaders from various departments, including labor, invalids and social affairs; health; industry and trade; the people's court; transport; and planning and investment, answered questions related to issues raised by the Lao side.

On behalf of the high-level delegation of the LPRP, Santisouk Simmalavong expressed satisfaction with the visit and work in Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, and thanked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for the warm and cordial reception.

Santisouk Simmalavong was pleased that Ho Chi Minh City and Lao localities always stand together, overcoming difficulties, sharing joys and sorrows, and that cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Laotian localities is continuously developing, contributing to a lasting Vietnam-Laos relationship./.
