Mokhamad Suyamto, Director of Supply Chain and Public Services at Bulog, said this supplementary import aims to strengthen the government's rice stockpile until 2024.

Bulog will import rice from any country that meets the required standards, he added.

According to Mr. Suyamto, the rice warehouse controlled by Bulog currently has 1.45 million tonnes of rice left.

With the implementation of additional import instructions, the amount of rice reserves of this agency will increase to meet distribution needs until next year to maintain stable domestic rice prices.

Bulog is also currently conducting in-depth monitoring of rice prices.

According to this agency's assessment, the increase in rice prices comes from both domestic and foreign factors, such as the influence of El Nino and the beginning of the growing season.

Since the beginning of the year, Bulog has distributed a total of 885,000 tonnes of rice to stabilize the market, and 641,000 tonnes of rice under the food support program for the poor across the country from September to November 2023./.
